If your looking to rent an apartment home with a little more space, you might want to try a townhouse. Its perfect for families or renters who simply are tired of renting tiny apartment homes. And you get to have the exact same amenities and features that you would find in a regular community. So if you really enjoy the weight room or breakfast bar, you will still be able to take advantage of the community features too.  Read on to find out what the advantages and disadvantages of renting townhouses are.

Town-home Features

A town-home really is a super sized apartment home. Usually there a several of these that are attached side by side and stretches on down a common street.  Town-homes are usually attached or detached. So its possible you will share a common wall with other renters.

There are usually a number of different floor-plans. Usually town-homes are about 3 stories. And bedrooms can be on any floor depending on the schematics.  There are usually multiple bathrooms, living room, kitchen, and sometimes a bonus room.  Often there may also a be a small backyard or outdoor patio or deck.

Cons Of A Town-home

If your renting one with a common wall you may have noise issues.  This might be the main drawback. And if you can hear your neighbors, chances are they can hear you too.   Be sure and ask your leasing agent about noise issues.  Often the walls are sound-proofed.

If you want to decorate the interior, there may be certain rules that will restrict you from making any decorating changes. Your lease should tell you more about any possible rules.

Positives of a Town-home

Renters absolutely love having their own personal garage. If you have lived in a larger apartment community, you know how much of a pain parking outside or even in a parking garage can be. Theft is also a common occurrence. Its nice to be able to park and walk right inside your home.

Many also have a smaller front, side, and backyards.  Having a little extra green space is a positive for renters with kids and pets.

Square footage is also abundant. Many town-homes have well over 1500 square feet of living space. And with 2 or 3 floors, you can have adequate separation from the other roommates.  If sure is nice to have a little extra privacy.
