One common question leasing agents always are asked by prospective renters includes “how much are my utilities per month”?  Of course most renters are usually concerned about the monthly rent as its the most expensive revolving payment you will make on a monthly basis. Many financial planners recommend that your utility bills should be approximately between 2 and 10 percent of your income. Remember you will be paying for cable, Internet, water, trash, electricity, and phone service. They all can add up pretty quickly, so it sure is nice to know what you will be spending on a monthly basis.

A great place to start is with the leasing agents. They should know approximately what your electricity and cable bills might be on a monthly basis. They are probably asked this all the time. They will also know about the providers in the apartment community. There are usually different packages for Internet and Cable. So you will want to contact the local providers and ask about their pricing.

Reduce Your Bill


Many companies are now bundling services. If you use a provider for telephone, cable, and Internet, you will receive a larger discount.  Also be prepared to shop utility providers. By calling around you might be able to secure a better rate.
