How To Handle Roommate Problems
So you have a major roommate problem. Everyone has one from time to time. Its not unusual, so don’t fret. Its time you sat down with them and had an open discussion. You will resolve your differences and be able to move on. Read on to find out what you can do to take care of your problems quickly.

Set Up An Agreement

The absolute best way to resolve issues is to configure a roommate agreement so you won’t get into these conflicts in the first place. So the first item of discussion will be to have an open conversation with your roommate of responsibilities inside the apartment home. Who is going to clean and when? And be sure each of you define what cleaning actually is. Many arguments revolve directly around the chores. Some people believe cleaning the kitchen means thoroughly wiping down the counters with a cleaning agent, mopping the floors, and taking out the trash.

If you both outline the chores and what they entail, its one step closer to resolving any issues before they occur. And while your having this sort of conversation, its time to add in other common points of contention including having friends over, pets, how much noise each of you will make, etc.

Then after doing so, put it all in writing. Why you may ask? Because if someone has agreed to something in writing and then acts against what they promised, its easy to resolve by showing them what they agreed to.

Other Conflicts

The easiest way to solve conflicting issues is to communicate with your roommate clearly and early on. When you find yourself at odds with your roommate, be upfront and direct with them.

Oh and be sure and remain calm. Let your roommate know that you need some time to speak with them about some things. And don’t bring this up at a bad time when their are about to leave or they just found out that they scored an “F” on their latest exam.

During your conversation, don’t assign blame to the other party. This will not get you any points, nor get you anywhere. Here are a few pointers listed below.

*Try and see the conversation from their point of view
*Don’t scream or call them names
*Talk about how these things make you feel
*Be sure not to argue

If both of your cooperate and attempt to resolve your differences, this will make living with each other much more enjoyable.
