Pet Friendly Apartment Rentals - Ask These Questions
Renting with a pet sure does provide its own set of issues. Luckily for you, RentXYZ is on top of it and will show you how to navigate this unsettling waters. And if your like most pet owners, you won’t even consider moving unless your pet can come with you.  If your out searching on your own, you may discover that some apartment homes won’t accept pets, while others have extremely high deposits.

But simply by asking the right questions before you start the moving process will surely save you lots of time and you will get the community you desire.

Can My Pet Live In The Community

This is the most important question that needs to be asked. And many renters get so caught up in the floor-plans and location that they simply forget to ask.  Contact the property by phone and ask, “Do you accept pets.”  If they don’t then its time to move on. However, if they do, your follow up questions should be about breed, weight, number of pets, and cost.

And once again before you fill out the application, make sure you understand the pet policies. Don’t forget to ask about the deposit and what portion is refundable. And make sure your completely honest with the landlord or manager.  Don’t try and sneak in a pet that does not fall within the restricted breed list. This can cause a lot of problems and possibly an eviction.

Is The Rental Friendly For Your Pet

Its one aspect for an apartment to be pet friendly, but is the environment one that is friendly to your furry friend. Stairs can be especially difficult for some pets to climb.  And depending on the age of your pet, this can surely take its toll. If your pet were to fall down a flight of stairs this could seriously injure him/her.

So if you have the opportunity, a ground floor unit might be best. What type of flooring does your new apartment home contain? Hardwoods can easily be scratched and possibly damaged. And although the cleanup might be extremely easy, you might lose your entire security deposit.

Many apartment communities will also offer dog parks or sections where you can walk your pet and clean up after him. Don’t forget to ask the manager about other tenants in the community. Is there a doggy daycare nearby.
