How To Rent Your First Apartment
Renting your first apartment home can be an exciting experience. You probably are in school, have started your first job, or just want a new life experience. Although it may seem a little overwhelming, we have provided some essentials you will want to know about before you sign your lease.

What is Your Price Range

Whatever you do, don’t get in over your head with your monthly rent. Many apartment management companies will require that you provide them with you monthly earnings. They want you to be able to pay your rent on time too. But it really is important to figure out on your own, what you can afford to pay on a monthly basis. Figure out what you can afford to spend on common essentials like food, clothes, entertainment, and other monthly expenses. One rule of thumb is that if your spending as much as a third of your monthly income on your home, you are in trouble. You should shoot for 25%. Many apartment communities require that you make at least 3.5 times the monthly rent.

Research Whats Out There

After you have determined a rough price range, its time to figure out what that will get you. Is that just enough for a studio, or will it be enough for a spacious 2 bedroom? Its also time to choose it you prefer a large apartment facility with a management company onsite, or a smaller one with a landlord who only comes around once in awhile. RentXYZ will post deals that apartment communities are running through the month. You will be able to see exactly where the apartment is located and view photos and floor-plans of different communities. If your in school, there should be a housing division that helps students find apartment homes in the area.

Understand A Lease

Many companies will use a standard lease. Just type in your state and “apartment lease” and you should be able to see what one looks like and whats contained in one. The lease should provide all the details including lease term, information about pets, what happens if you break your lease, how much money rent is each month, and when its due. In the unlikely event of a dispute, you can also research what rights you have as a tenant too. And remember to keep all of your paperwork in a safe place. You don’t want to lose it.
