How TO Choose A Friend as A Roommate
Moving in a friend can be a pretty positive decision in your life.  And it does seem like a great idea, especially if you two both have things in common. In addition, all of your bills will be split in half, leaving both of you with more money to use on other types of things. But before you jump into a new roommate situation, you will need to answer some questions about your new companion. Think about it, even if its your best friend, is this someone you want to spend a large portion of your day with?

Do You Really Know Them

Most of the time when you move in with someone, you will discover much about them. Much of it will be removed once you are actually under the same roof with them.  So before you jump into your new relationship with them, can you really stand to eat most of your meals around them, showering, and paying bills in front of them.  Maybe you should keep your friends away from you.

You Don’t Have To Do Everything With Them

When choosing a roommate, you don’t have to have a lot in common with them. But there should be a few items that both of you are on the same page with.  The main items should include cleanliness of the apartment home, guests, and the hours both of you keep.  Although it may seem like a great idea at the time, if you have to get up for work at 6am, and your new roommate is up until 2am every night making a lot of racket, this might not be the best fit.

Also if one of you is extremely clean, and the other is dirty, this usually is not a working roommate situation either.  Its best if you talk amongst each other to decide if you really can live under the same roof.

Also remember that if your roommate damages the apartment home, you will also be responsible for. You really should be living with a stand up person who is responsible and takes ownership of his actions.

Make Plans In Advance

Both of you should agree on the length of term of the lease. You cannot expect to live with each other forever, so set a time frame that both of you are comfortable with.

Remember that living with a friend who is also a roommate can be an enjoyable experience. But you want to make sure its the right fit first.
