How To Get Out of Your Apartment Lease
Have you ever been in the middle of your lease and wanted to be able to get out of it. Of course all contracts have clauses that allow the renter to escape. Normally renters have to pay a fee (sometimes equaling up to two months rent) or in some cases the property will require the unit to be re-leased.  However, it is usually of monetary value to escape the lease.

If you are in the military and are transferred you are usually able to “break” your lease on good terms.  But what if you are one of those people who don’t want to pay a re-letting fee and just cannot stand living in your apartment community anymore. We have outlined a brief list below of how you can get out of your lease on good terms. Remember breaking your lease is a no no. It will present you with many problems. Always fulfill your lease obligations when possible.

A) Is Your Apartment Home Unsafe

The owner or landlord must fix any undesirable conditions that affect your health and safety of an “ordinary tenant”.  If your Cypress apartments floods and causes mold issues, you have a faulty smoke detector, or your balcony is unsafe, these conditions may all quality. Here is what you must do. Send a certified letter to the location where you normally pay your rent.  And don’t cause the problem yourself. Breaking your air-conditioner is not a solution.

B) Is Your Apartment Home Like The One They Showed You When Your Toured the Property

You will want to make sure you employ this tactic sooner than latter. This probably won’t work if you have lived in the property for 6 months. Deceptive Trade Practices are in place to prevent business including apartments in this situation from showing you a really nice apartment home and sticking you a lemon. Of course you would have to show that the apartment acted in a way that you were not presented with a similar apartment. Of course before you sign the lease you should ask to see your apartment home.

C) Do The Apartment Gates Work Properly

If you have ever lived at any Woodland apartments before, the gates have probably been broken before. These sorts of gates have many moving parts and break many times. Some apartments will actually advertise their gates as a main selling point. If a property is guilty of not repairing their gates, and uses their gate as a main selling point, you may be able to claim a deceptive trade practice.

D) Is Your Apartment Community Safe

If your car has been broken into multiple times or there has been some repetitive crime on the property, you may be able to claim the property is guilty of civil negligence. You will probably want an attorney to write a demand letter stating your demands. The Houston apartment property will probably let you out of your lease it you can present a compelling argument.

Please remember we are not attorneys and you should consult one before attempting to get out of your lease. And different states have different laws.  An attorney will be very familiar with the law.
